Johnathan is a husband and father. His family is his joy. He also wants to help you find comfort and meaning in your life. He is also a psychotherapist, consultant, public speaker, the University of Dallas Counseling Center Director, Founder and CEO of The Mental Well PLLC, and Founder and CEO of PrivaSuites LLC (a health practice launching company).
With a BA in Psychology from West Texas A&M University, an MA in Community Counseling from Marquette University, and an MBA with a concentration in Health Systems Management from The University of Dallas, he holds the license of an Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) by the State of Texas.
Johnathan's clinical perspective has been informed by over a decade of work in various clinical settings:
- A children's psychological assessment center.
- A hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- An Acute Care Unit (ACU).
- An inner-city Outpatient (OP) centers.
- An inpatient psych-hospital, in Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and In Patient (IP).
- A pastoral counseling center.
- A Residential In Patient drug rehab.
- A university counseling center.
- A private practice owner.
Sumpter's work is also informed from experience with:
- 15 years in youth ministry at various levels: parish, diocesan, regional, and spoke publicly nationally.
- 5 years as a certified spiritual director.
- 5 summers missionary work in Mexico, Honduras, and Peru.
- 3 years in seminary.
- 3 years working with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families in family and group homes.
- 2 years teaching college practicum courses.
- 2 years as a teacher for middle school and high school.
- 1 year as a chaplain for children and families affected by HIV and AIDS.
- Served on various selective Mayoral, Bishop, and University Presidential committees, working groups, and ad hoc advising groups.
